I was wondering democracy defines involvement of all its citizens in the decision making process on issues on nation development. Instead what’s happening in India at present is a group of old politicians mostly 45 plus taking stand on all issues of national importance. Their image is just like the ever changing Chameleon who amends themselves according to their immediate interest and sacrifices the nation’s future. One can clearly see how many politicians see India in 2015 or 2020 but they only see the immediate assembly elections or the upcoming parliamentary by poll elections. Talking about youth we know the population under 34 years is around 41% as per the Census of India – 2001. According to some estimates the current proportion of population under 25 years in India is 51% and the proportion under 35 is about 66%. This predominance of youth in the population is expected to last until 2050 while the average age of an Indian in 2020 is expected to be 29 years.
We talk of reservation for SCs & STs, OBCs, and women but why not for youth. Do youth represent a different class of people who better involve themselves in jobs? Are we right in dividing people based on caste only and demanding benefits accordingly? When you ask a youth today he is never bothered about his caste or his background but demands a respectable life only. Why not we have reservation for youth in every sphere of life? This question will rise in near future when especially the so called old experienced politicians will put constantly the nation future in jeopardy. There is always an explanation that youth of today is not interested in political affairs but I strongly disagree. I feel the right environment and platform is not there. We better realize this fact and create opportunities for youth to participate in decision making process. We can easily realize this by reserving some constituencies where youth population is around 50% or more and certainly we can keep some of them for male and female too. It is a high time we start preparing to give the possession of this nation in hands of its rightful authority –our youth. Remember if we continuously suppress they will take it anyway either in form of some revolution or may be through destructive ways. This change will bring satisfaction of their presence at the top. They can better guide the sidetracked youths involved in violence like naxalites, terrorists, banned organizations, etc. and bring them to the society. We certainly do not require a Jan Aandholan to recognize them or do we?

Can we trust the youth of the nation with so much power?
